Hello from Taubaté! I want to take a moment and share some of the wonderful things that the Lord has been doing in our lives over the last few weeks. It certainly has been a busy time and the Lord has really blessed in many ways.
First, I want to mention our plans for the future. Our mission here in Taubaté was first to learn the language and culture. While this is certainly a years-long task, we feel that we have successfully begun this work. Our language schooling and cultural adaptation have been enriching and engaging. However, we believe that our main work of starting this has been completed. With that in mind, we are in the planning phases now to commence a work in a neighboring city. Many of you have prayed for this. In August I will be laying out in greater detail what the Lord has for us along with how we plan to accomplish the great task of reaching people with the Gospel and seeing a work started for His honor and glory.
With this transition in mind we will be taking a short furlough from November 2021 to January 2022. We have already been in contact with several supporting and new churches. If we could serve you in any way while we are in the States, please do not hesitate to let me know. We take our accountability with our home church/pastor and supporting churches/pastors very seriously. Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have.
Several weeks ago Jamie and I made a visit with Bro. Ed to the home of Gabriel and his wife Poliana and their 2 boys. Gabriel was already saved, however, Poliana and John, their 14-year-old, trusted Christ as their Saviour. As a result of them getting saved and beginning to attend the church, Gabriel has brought 3 other siblings and his mom to the church. I have had the privilege of visiting the entire family in their respective homes. What a joy it is to see the Lord doing a work in and through this family! Rodrigo is one of Gabriel’s younger brothers and Jonathan and I were able to make a visit to Rodrigo and Carla’s home 2 weeks ago. We had the opportunity to share the Gospel with this dear family and Carla and Luiza, their 11-year-old daughter, trusted Christ as their Saviour. Please be in prayer for this dear family that they would follow the Lord in baptism and Christian growth!
We will be having our first youth conference here in just a week and a half, July 19-24. I’m very excited about it but burdened at the same time for several young people both saved and lost. One young man Augusto, Alessandra’s son, really needs help spiritually. We talked late last week with him telling me that he was never coming to church again, and yet, in the same conversation how much help he needed. I love this young man in the Lord dearly. Pray for the Lord to work on his heart. He’s one of many that are starving spiritually and looking in all the wrong places for satisfaction. We will have 6 different preachers throughout the week, myself included. Pray that God will use His Word to save the lost, encourage the saved, and draw those who are far from Him close again.
Pray for Carlos as well. He’s come several times with a man in the church and he needs help. In his early 60s, Carlos has lived a life of sin and addiction for years. I spent several hours with him and his wife last week and for him, salvation is simply freedom from these sins, rather than biblical salvation. Please pray for him to understand the simplicity of the Gospel and true freedom that comes in Christ. Please pray with me for Carlos and Angela’s salvation.
I really don’t have enough time to properly thank you all for your prayer on our behalf. We live in exciting times and now more than ever it’s time to keep plugging away! We love you all and pray for you often. If there’s any way that we can serve you, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
For souls in Brazil and beyond,
Keith, Jamie, Lainey, and Clayton Putnam
